DAVID CHEVALLIER
"Today, David Chevallier seems to have definitively found his path by fully committing himself to these fusions of contemporary soundscapes, improvised music, song, vocal art, and modern jazz... Equally distant from postmodern collage techniques as it is from a fusion-based aesthetic that erases differences, his music strives to ensure that “things blend together to create forms that did not exist at the outset, while seeking to keep the elements that constitute them constantly discernible.”
“David Chevallier is nonetheless a musician of his time, perfectly in tune with the major aesthetic challenges of modernity.”
Stéphane Ollivier - Jazz Magazine

David Chevallier is one of those musicians who enjoy changing direction, never hesitating to step outside their comfort zone to explore new horizons.
A longtime collaborator with jazz musicians such as Laurent Dehors and Patrice Caratini, he founded his own music company, SonArt, which explores the possibilities of bringing together disparate musical worlds, with a particular focus on the intersections between Baroque music and contemporary jazz. It was only natural, then, that he took up the theorbo and the baroque guitar, which he uses both to perform Björk’s songs on period instruments and to play continuo in baroque ensembles.
But David Chevallier hasn’t abandoned jazz and improvisation, or the electric guitar, as evidenced by his albums "Standards & Avatars" and "Back to Brubeck", as well as his duo "Zèbres" with Valentin Ceccaldi. Depending on the nature of the project, he collaborates with artistic partners who come from different backgrounds but are open to new experiences and collaboration.
A prolific composer and seasoned improviser, he cultivates his own distinctive style and forges a unique path.
